Sydney Sweeney shot a cameo for The Devil Wears Prada 2, and it's not making the final movie.

The scene was roughly three minutes long, filmed near the top of the sequel, and featured Sydney playing herself as a celebrity client being dressed by Emily Blunt's Emily Charlton, who now runs Dior's U.S. operations in the film. Entertainment Weekly first reported the cut, and Variety independently confirmed the details.

The reason? Structural, not personal. A source told EW the scene "did not work structurally with the rest of the sequence," and that the production team was grateful for Sydney's participation. Variety echoed the same explanation: the bit didn't mesh with the rest of the opening.

That's a clean editorial call. Fans have been tracking this cameo since Sydney was photographed heading to set in mid-2025. For months, it was one of the sequel's most speculated-about details. Now it's a deleted scene.

What fans almost got

The cameo was designed as a fashion-world pop-culture moment, not a plot mover. Sydney, playing herself, steps into Emily Charlton's orbit just before the film's main engine kicks in: Andy Sachs, Miranda Priestly, and Nigel Kipling arriving at the Dior offices to ask for Emily's help. The scene expanded on Emily's reintroduction, establishing her as someone who dresses A-listers before we see her go toe-to-toe with Meryl Streep's Miranda.

In a sequel already packed with recognizable faces, from Lady Gaga (who does appear in the final cut and recorded a Doechii-assisted soundtrack song called "Runway") to Donatella Versace and Naomi Campbell, one more celebrity cameo near the top of the movie can tip a busy opening from glossy to cluttered.

Variety reported that Sydney's wasn't the only cameo trimmed from the finished film. The sequel's cast already includes Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, and Pauline Chalamet, among others. The sequel features a large ensemble cast of high-profile actors; these performers make up the film's principal cast rather than appearing solely in pre-narrative cameos.

The production's attitude toward real-world fashion credibility adds context. Director David Frankel said on the Back Row podcast that Anna Wintour was never asked to appear because "that felt too meta." Wintour did visit set, though, and reportedly told the crew the flowers in the Dior-office scene were wrong. The prop team swapped them for a single vase of white flowers. That level of fashion-world polish suggests the filmmakers were willing to cut anything that disrupted the film's rhythm, no matter how buzzy.

Sydney's cameo had already become one of the sequel's most speculated-about details before anyone saw a frame. The set photos circulated, the speculation built, and fans spent nearly a year imagining what her scene looked like. Now they know: three minutes, playing herself, getting dressed by Emily Blunt, gone.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 opens in theaters May 1. Whether the cameo ever surfaces as a deleted scene on streaming remains an open question, and one fans will be watching for.
